Prices and Policies

Once a child is older than 2 and a half, we like to bring him or her in for a free assessment before assigning them to a class. Please ring to make an appointment for this.

Kong himself will do the assessing, and talk to the parent about the level of skill and confidence the child displays. He will make recommendations on whether private lessons are necessary or not, and what level of swimming the child is at. This usually takes 5-10 minutes in the pool with Kong.

Once this is done, the staff will assist you in finding a class that suits the level of the child and your timetable.

Classes are available from Monday to Saturday. Beach awareness and surfing lessons are available Saturday afternoons and other times during the week by arrangement.

Enrolment forms and fees are payable at or before the first class booked.

POLICIES AND IMPORTANT INFORMATION

All our instructors are Austswim accredited and teach in groups of no more than 6 children. Small groups allow for individual differences and progressing at the child’s own pace.

ON ARRIVAL
Parents are asked to check in with reception on arrival to ensure attendance is recorded and payments are up to date.

Children are asked not to proceed to the pool area until given the go-ahead from the teacher. Once at the pool-side, there is a foot rinsing bucket to be used before getting into the pool.

SWIM CAPS AND GOGGLES
Children are asked to wear a swim cap at all times in the pool. This ensures a higher level of water hygiene, and also makes for easier swimming when hair is not blocking vision. Many children find learning easier with goggles, but these are not essential and are up to the individual as to whether they are worn.

FOOD AND EATING
Please do not allow your child to eat for one and a half hours prior to the class. The warm salt water speeds up digestion and relaxes the abdomen muscles. Also, the children are working hard in the pool and if they have just eaten can find it harder to exercise while the body is trying to digest food.

It is better to bring snacks for your child to eat later, as they will usually be very hungry after the class!

RINSING
After class, it is important to rinse the salt water off the body. The salt water has a small amount of chlorine in it and is not good to be left on the skin for extended times. We have a shower for rinsing at the school, or rinse as soon as you get home.

ILLNESS
If your child has had a contagious illness recently or any kind of food poisoning or digestive upset, please let us know and keep your child away from classes until well again.

CARPARK SAFETY
As we are located in a block of units used by several businesses, you must accompany your child at all times when moving through the carpark or into the street. Remember that small children are not easily seen behind large vehicles.

MISSED CLASSES
We understand children need to miss classes from time to time for various reasons. Please note the following terms: • You must ring us ahead of time if you cannot attend a class. If you do not notify us you will forfeit your right to a make-up class. • Make-up classes must be taken in the current 4 week block that has been paid for. • You can substitute a leisure swim for a class. • If 2 lessons are missed in the one block, you may substitute a 15 minute private lesson with Kong.

COMMUNICATION
We will from time to time send emails regarding school holiday intensives, special offers and so on. Please feel free to use the email for any non-urgent queries. For notification of changes or missing classes, please telephone.

We welcome any feedback about classes, teachers or any other issues, and also welcome suggestions for improvement. Please feel free to talk to Gary, Rozane or Jo at any time.
